Child & Family Center - CORE: Community Outreach, Resources and Education

The Center’s Community Outreach Program provides education presentations in local schools focusing on substance use prevention, workshops for parents to improve their relationships with their children, interactive events for teens and participation at local community events. The goal is to educate teens and parents on how to practice healthy behaviors to prevent problems from developing.

Prevention

Classroom presentations offered for elementary, middle and high school students throughout Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys.

The interactive presentations are designed to promote healthy relationships through building strengths, resilience, and coping skills. Teens gain tools to develop and maintain violence-free relationships, improved socio-emotional health and healthy drug-free coping skills.

Substance use prevention education workshops for middle and high school students present the facts about cannabis, opioids & fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Guiding Good Choices:

Guiding Good Choice is a free, in-person program designed to support parents and caregivers of youth ages 9–14. Over the course of five engaging sessions, families learn practical tools to encourage healthy development and reduce risky behaviors during the preteen and teen years.

Each session includes interactive learning, take-home practices, and guidance on strengthening family connections.

  • “The sessions were very interesting and informative, especially on how I can help my children. I really enjoyed these classes, thank you!” — Guiding Good Choices Parent Attendee

Educational  Workshops:

Substance Use Prevention explores key substances youth may be pressured to use. Parents gain helpful tools to engage in healthy conversations with their teens on topics such as vaping, marijuana, methamphetamine, opioids, and alcohol

Social Media and its impact explores the risks these platforms pose to their emotional and behavioral health.

Botvin Life Skills Training course for teens is designed to reduce the risk of alcohol, tobacco, drug use, violence and other risky behaviors. Teens gain the confidence and skills to handle challenging behaviors that may lead to substance use.
